MEDICAL UPDATE
Happy Memorial Day.
Today as we reflect on the sacrifices made by our military servicemen and women, it feels appropriate to discuss how we can respect and protect one another every day.
Frankly, we need that same level of service and selflessness in order to beat this virus.
From all of us—together.
To the 144 million of you who’ve mostly stayed home and have played by the rules despite the pain, suffering, frustration, and isolation of being under quarantine—you are SAVING LIVES. We thank you. And to those of you without the option to stay home or socially distance—many of whom are keeping the rest of us healthy—you, too, are HEROES.
Most of us agree that health, safety, and respect for others is not about politics. It’s about treating our fellow citizens like we want to be treated ourselves. It’s about looking beyond our noses and our own needs.
Particularly in a pandemic where the enemy is invisible and ubiquitous, a new level of forbearance is in order.
It takes guts, courage, and heart to put others before ourselves. But when we do, we are stronger and healthier together.
This week I look forward to talking about how we make decisions as we reopen life. I know we’ll make it through.
I’ll see you tomorrow. Until then, be well.
P.S. Upcoming events this week:
Join me and BBC’s Katty Kay on Instagram Live on WEDNESDAY at 11:15 am EST for a news roundup! We’ll talk about vaccines, COVID in kids, blood clotting due to coronavirus, and other medical updates.
Join me and teen psychologist Julie Baron, MSW, of Julie Baron and Associates on Facebook Live on THURSDAY at 3 pm EST to discuss the emotional challenges our teens are facing. Specifically we’ll discuss managing an unstructured life, navigating uncertainty, and resisting our culture of hyperfunctioning—now and in the future.
