Am I Following In My Mother’s Footsteps?

Dear Dr. McBride,

My mother had dementia, so I pay attention to my memory. I’m 56 and fairly healthy - aside from an extra 15-20 pounds thanks to menopause. Ever since I had Covid in March 2022 I am more fatigued and have more frequent headaches. I am more forgetful too. Could this be long Covid or a sign of dementia? My doctor says no - my lab tests are fine - but I’m worried that we’re missing something. Thanks in advance.

- Kate

Dear Kate,

It is normal — even expected — to worry about developing the very same health issues that our parents have (or had), particularly when we notice similar symptoms in ourselves.
