What can one actually do for the brain? My take is Back to Basics. What are you eating and drinking, and how much? How active are you? Do you use tobacco or so-called recreational drugs? How many hours of sleep do you get? How do you manage stress? As a physician, I'm sure you're asking patients about these things.

Yes indeed! The Brain Care Score helps quantify it all for patients :)

Great articles! The Diane story is what makes this piece land. Caregiver burnout has its own well-documented physiological signature (elevated cortisol, disrupted sleep, weakened immune function), so what's happening to Diane isn't just lifestyle drift, it's a measurable stress response that compounds the very risk she's trying to manage.

The part about powerlessness at the end - that's it. Often, the problem is not knowing what to do. It's having stopped believing it matters to try.

This has been happening to me, and some of it started after I went through chemotherapy the second time. This might just be my summer project!

Thanks, Lucy. I have the same memory glitches as your patient, getting more frequent in the last few months, as I approach 80 in July. After taking the brain score test it's comforting to know everything I'm doing to maintain/improve my health is helping my brain also, but I'd still like to eliminate the memory glitches.

I'm in DC, which isn't listed as a option for US location.

(not the first time I've seen this in various surveys or whatever over the years!)

Oof! Let me tell Dr. Rosand!

I just came on here to see if she can help get the District of Columbia listed in the brain score survey! You can't even move on unless you select a "state," and DC isn't listed.

It’s difficult to take seriously anything that begins by referring to “sex assigned at birth.”
