The best change in medicine over the past 50 years is all the female doctors. Much more empathy and compassion.

I am a mosquito magnet. People invite me to picnics to protect them. Yet when i traveled to SE Asia i got no mosquito bites. I used mosquito protective clothing and never went out without repellant. Guess it's time to resoak my clothing and make mosquito precautions daily routines. Especially because i am trying to walk 2 to 5 miles per day outside. Glad you are on the mend.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I am a mosquito magnet and need to be better about using some kind of repellent when I’m outside. We’re already vigilant about dumping any standing water but appreciate the tip to be more mindful of our neighborhood/surrounding area. So glad your neighbor is seeing improvements.

Thank you for sharing. This actually kind of terrifies me. We live not far from you, near Annapolis, and our house is in the woods. If I am out in the yard for ten minutes, I come in with mosquito bites. The little f***ers love me. Because of where we live, it’s just not feasible to eliminate all standing water nearby (a small creek and bog are just down the hill), and I hate to go around smelling like Off just because I want to spend a half hour in my yard. We have some big inscense sticks that help but it’s not perfect either. Meanwhile, they totally leave my husband alone. I wish someone would develop a truly effective treatment to repel and kill mosquitoes.

Excellent posting with excellent reminders. This summer we had many mosquitoes and tick issues around us.

What an ordeal your friend went through with neuro-invasive West Nile Virus. She was determined, despite horrible pain and the loss of function in one of her legs. Thank you for sharing this cautionary and inspiring post.

super insightful read, thankful to Alyse for sharing her insight and perspective - wishing her all the best. Many of us don't know or forget out WNV in the NE coast - we are more tick borne illness aware, so this was a great reminder, in addition to the new of Dr. Fauci. I'll be doing a standing water audit tonight!
