I am 60. I started menopause at 51. At 57 I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and have been taking alendronate for 3 years. I want to stop taking it. Would starting hrt now be beneficial for my bone health?
I’d talk to your doctor about it, but you are technically within the 10 yr window where the benefits of HRT outweighs the risk for *most* but not all women. HRT is known to help with bone health.. but it helps the most when it is started early.. close to menopause. But again, ask your doctor.. it’s a great idea!
Hi Marja- Hot spells at age 70 can sometimes be hormonal but they also can be from other causes such as medication side effects or a new medical condition. My best advice is to talk to your doctor to get to the bottom of your symptoms. Good luck! :)
I thought this podcast was great! Very informative. I just wish you had touched on questions we should ask our GYN so we know we are the right track to having correct care. I myself have seen in my GYN steering me towards her thoughts of HRT not answering my questions or concerns. I don’t want to use the term dismiss but downplaying my symptoms. Telling me things like carbs are not your friend. I will take the information I heard today and clearly discuss it with her. Thank you.
Thank you! The article is so well done. I am a nurse and was working for an OB/GYN in the 90s when the WHI study came out on hormone replacement therapy. It was really sad to see how it was presented and the fear that it caused in women this resulting in them abruptly stopping their hormone replacement therapy. There were a lot of miserable women that did not have to suffer through that.
I can't seem to find much info on related T3 to low progesterone, and how to help this...I have met with hormone doc, she prescribed T3 and Progesterone, just have never had to take a medication in my life before...and want to feel good about it, very little discussion of those connections/relationships between thyroid and progesterone...I am so low in both, just at 46 years of age...so many perimenopause symptoms.
I use Estradiol vaginal cream , and am 76. Is this safe?
Yes! Estrogen vaginal cream is very safe. Of course talk w your doctor about your specific issues but in general, yes!
Is there another single topic more important to women’s quality of life and longevity?
And by single topic I mean other than the importance of the whole cycle’s impact on women beginning in girlhood.
Excellent work ladies!
Thank you!

Hi Doctor?
I could not take hormones because of very high
blood pressure. I never had menopause symptoms. I have hot spells now at 70. Anything to be concerned about? My family has cancers.

Thank you for your feedback. It has been hard to get doctors to explore what it is. I will try again with my PCP.

OK and feel free to submit a question for my Friday Q&A using the link above! Thanks so much for listening! :)

Thank you - and I agree!
