Super helpful, thanks Dr. Lucy! It's always confusing trying to figure out the best product to buy/use when you're feeling crummy, and this clarifies things a lot.
I am so glad you will talk about Ashwaghanda, Gaba, Magnesium Glysinate, L-Theanine. Thank you so much Dr. McBride. I will look for your Friday newsletter with Q and A's.
I want to suggest a topic for you to talk about: supplements for anxiety and sleep. What do you think of Ashwaghanda? I find it really helpful for both anxiety and sleep. Also, Gaba for both. I have been recommended to try Magnesium Bigalsinate (spelling?). Would love to know your thoughts. Thanks! Susan
Thank you for this primer. Never did understand why decongestants and expectorants are used in same medication. Anything on the steroidal nasal spray you mentioned on the nasal mucosal immunity?
Thank you for this primer. Never did understand mixing expectorants and congestion myself.
Loved the piece on your favorite things. Most of them are in my war chest. But I wonder why you prefer ibuprofen, as opposed to Aleve or even aspirin, both of which are my drugs of choice—aspirin for headache and Aleve for body pain. Perhaps a comparison of all these drugs would make an interesting column.
Aleve is a cousin of Advil.. also antiinflammatory and great bc it is longer acting than Advil. I think of aspirin as a blood thinner more than a remedy for flu/colds - but some people swear by it for its antiinflamm properties!
I love this list and even though I don’t buy much at traditional pharmacies and tend to stick to more natural products, I agree with you that Advil is my go to and the other suggestions seem like great ones and I also do love Vicks vapor rub!
Question about Vaseline in the nose, I was told not to, that tiny droplets of petroleum jelly can be inhaled into the lungs, possibly resulting in pneumonia. Not true?
Oh gosh that is super unlikely! Anything we put in our mouth and nose can accidentally be inhaled - not just Vaseline! - so I wouldn't worry too much about a thin layer of vaseline if you need it to lubricate your nose :)
You are like the Statue of Liberty: a beacon for all of us.
Sooo many thanks.
aw, thank you!

Great suggestions! Someone else asked about Ashwaganda so stay tuned for friday's Q&A
I also love this topic and I take L-Theanine before bed, which is an amino acid and calming before sleep.

Didn't mean to repeat myself but thought I lost the first sentence.

Oh yes!
Sooo helpful! I have never had anyone explain any of this, though I did know about viruses not being cured by anti-biotics. You are the best.
