yes, a good start to a rainy monday

thank you

i note that the responses thus far are all from women, so i shall interrupt that trend

disclosure: 80, retired pediatric cardiologist, doting grandfather, and i too enjoy, no, thrive on quiet time (but without soggy cereal)

and all of us, however we identify, benefit from peeling away layers of encrusted trauma - stuff we all experience and generally internalize

Yes, TOM!!! This is not just about women or teenage girls, so thank you for chiming in. Each of us was a teen once. Each of us has childhood wounds that either healed or didn't - or are somewhere in the middle.

Thank you for this quote. It says it all!

K-drama reference, realness and pro-Taylor insights?! Subscribed! Honestly, I’m not a Swiftie, just a regular fan that knows some of her music but not all of it, and yet I’m so tired of people hating on her just because she dares to breathe. For a role model to young women, she is FANTASTIC. Love that you gave a different perspective and that is so insightful!

I couldn't agree with you more. Her song writing is amazing, and I find Taylor Swift's music therapeutic.

The two movies are on my watch list! Will do very soon. Thank you, mistakes 45 years ago shouldn’t haunt me. No one has ever said that

I am glad to be the one!

Great piece. Taylor Swift helped me keep going through a very difficult period of my life, though as a male in his 50s I realise I am not her normal demographic!

Writing words that express how others feel better than we ever could describe it ourselves is a great talent. Music then unlocks emotions that we may not even realise we had buried.

Love it, Mark!! And you are so right.

love this article, the universal language of feelings that she tried to express and convey to her audience is probably why she has soo many fans. one of her most moving speeches is her NYU commencement speech (my friend was part of that years nyu grad and sent the video to me). She was given an honorary doctorate. It’s around 30 minutes and as a young adult it’s something I have watched multiple times whenever i’m feeling lost or down.

I know little of Taylor Swift but I remember an interview where I believed her ideas and their presentation was sound. Now I’ll spend an afternoon viewing the recommended movies. I’ve spent many years trying to understand my parents divorce and the judge awarding “full custody and control” of me to my mother. She, in turn completely excluded my father from my life.

Wow Carl - I do hope you find her work enlightening!

Love love love this, Lucy! I am simply in awe of Taylor Swift and made sure that I went to the concert last May, not just our daughters! I love how you explain her universal talent and appeal. I’ve had Miss Americana on my list and will watch it ASAP. I hope you get to see her live soon. Whatever it takes (minus selling a kidney), it’s worth it!

This is a fabulous blog Lucy - loved it. Funny and smart, as always, but especially so.

Appreciate it, Ted! We need more men to acknowledge their interiority - and to normalize the complexity of our selves that people cannot see. Her (and my) message isn't just for gals! Thank you for your nice note :)

Wonderful reflection. I've enjoyed reading you since "meeting you" virtually through Atsuko's salon. And may I suggest another artist who beautifully makes the invisible visible. And her concert tickets do not require the sale of an organ :) MALINDA is on all the places you download music. And I gave birth to her. I am so moved by the moms who come up to me at her concerts and say how much her music helps both their daughters and them. All hail the arts.
