A smile is an international symbol!! If you aren’t fluent in any language , lol it does ‘say’ it all ❤️🫶!!! Yay for a favorite hat 👒 ❤️It brought some unexpected kindness your way 💕and some sparkling pink face gel is the perfect topping 😆
I have just come back from a visit to Mayo Clinic where I went for a neurology consult. I was so comforted, as you say, by the humor and kindness not only of the doctors, but nurses, other assistants and fellow patients some of whom I shared our stories. They even had a pianist playing in the main lobby during much of the day. So I sat there in between appointments. The kindness of these strangers was so comforting, I didn’t feel like going to see my doctors!
Love this story, Lucy. I feel like hearing about kindness second hand must be beneficial too. Anyway, it made me smile this morning. Thanks for sharing!
I myself haven’t really had this happen to me. I am in Holland now as my son lives here. I’m from Australia. I have had a lot of smiles. I cant speak Dutch but there are lot of people who are willing to talk to me in English as well I do practiced kindness myself though and it really lifts my spirits to do so. I love telling a complete stranger something nice I notice about them eg a lovely dress or t-shirt.
What a great post and a terrific reminder of the healing power of kindness. Truly seeing others and connecting to our shared humanity is such a gift in these scary times. Thanks for reposting this, Lucy. It was just what I needed to see this morning.
My very pregnant daughter traveled to Zurich to see Taylor. ( It was her last doctor sanctioned trip away from her home.) Everyone in the line and at the concert went out of their way to make sure she had water and shade. A stranger even kindly relinquished his seat so she could sit down. (Her pre pregnant self had planned on standing in front of the stage with the masses.) I sent her your article because I knew she would relate to the kindness of strangers that you wrote about so beautifully.
I love these moments that remind us that we are all more alike than different. Thank you for reposting. It's just what I needed to start my day!

You made my day and reminded me that all my “to do “lists are meaningless next to pausing and trying to perform an act of kindness every day.
❤️
Lucy, one of your best columns...
I'm going to share it with my Pastor.
There's a sermon in this.
Best,

Kindness and thoughtfulness...we need more, more, more!

Lucy - we flew to Vancouver (From So Cal) to see TS. I still have the friendship bracelets I exchanged with a stranger. 💃💃💕💕
Great story!
You’ve inspired me to get creative in how I can spread more joy. Thank you, Lucy!
Connection is everything!
